Hungarian Academy of Sciences Open to Exchange Institutions with MOST Being Brought to the Next Level

:::
On May 28, 2014, Prof. Ádám Török, Secretary General of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS) received Dr. Suang-Jing Pong, Director of the Germany Office and Czech Republic Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the ROC (MOST), with warm welcome. The two parties exchanged information and views based on their cooperation policies. To begin with Prof. Török introduced the distinguished structure of the HAS, and secondly explained the main role of the institution, which is of a combination of the Soviet, British and French styles. It was further learned that the HAS functions as the principal and leading institution of Hungary’s fundamental research. On the other side, Dr. Pong also briefed the primary work and activities of the MOST and the Academia Sinica of the ROC. Prof. Török, who recently took his post, has done research at the Academia Sinica before, and therefore possesses a wealth knowledge of Taiwan’s achievements in the field of science research. Yuan-Tseh Lee, former President of the Academia Sinica of the ROC, won the title of Honorary Member of HAS in 2007, and has visited Budapest several times, pointed out Mr. Gergely Bőhm, Deputy Head of the Department of International Relations at the HAS. The HAS finds the academic attainments of the Nobel-prize laureate Yuan-Tseh Lee signally impressive. President Lee’s visits to Hungary have surely enhanced the academic exchange and deepened the cooperation between the two sides. (Yi-Ching Lin Jauh, National Taiwan University)
