DIC carries out bilateral cooperation in three basic ways: (l) exploratory visits of one week to look into the possibilities of cooperation, (2) bilateral seminars to gather scientists of the same field together to exchange views and explore the feasibility of future collaboration, and (3) joint research projects to share research results.

All kinds of cooperative activities have to get approval from both the NSC (restructured to MOST since March, 2014) and her counterparts abroad. Exploratory visits can be applied for at the MOST through an individual's employing organization or by recommendation from the academic departments of the MOST. Bilateral seminars can be applied for at the MOST through the coordinator's employing agency. These two types of projects may be applied for each year from January l to mid-November.
